I actually have a little idea about what most of the settings are at least in principle, but don't know how to figure out what to set them to to get the monitor to display correctly. If anybody can offer any advice as to how to figure out what settings to use, I'd appreciate it.

It's really difficult to work with like this and the text is aliasing pretty horrendously. The desktop is stretched horizontally and significantly overscanned. I had a non-paid version of it for a long time but recently purchased it and for some reason, when I did so, it managed to loose the settings, now I'm in the annoying position of knowing that it can be set up to work but not being able to find the right settings. Again, frustratingly, I did manage to get it to work pretty well when I first tried SwitchResX about a year ago (through sheer dumb luck). Crap like this really annoys me about Apple. The monitor is an ASUS MS 227N ( Link to manufacturer's page with manual) It has a native resolution of 1680x1050.įrustratingly, my old macbook air supported it just fine but the new retina macbook does not, even if I go into display settings, and hold 'alt' when I click on the scaled resolutions radio button, I get the expanded list of resolutions but 1680x1050 isn't on it. I presume this is deliberate by apple but it's frustrating when your monitor doesn't have an HDMI port (and also if you're trying to give a presentation at a meeting). Oddly, some monitors work fine when connected via hdmi but won't work when connected via VGA. I've noticed that Macbooks with Retina displays don't work well with certain monitors using connections.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-Inch, Early 2015) that's using an Intel Iris Graphics 6100, if that's relevant. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
